Women: A Mother, Sister, Daughter,
Wife, Girlfriend, Best-friend. They teach men to express and accept, live and
love, share and care.
Women’s Day fever is on and
every news channel and newspaper is full of talks about women’s achievements,
their success story and what not.
But does this talk really
make any sense? Do we really respect them? Is celebrating Women’s Day
really worth? Will distributing free passes for movies or discounts for women
make any difference? I know there is a lot of talk after the Delhi-Rape case
but are there any corrective measures? Instead the rape cases have been
increased after this case. Is creating Nirbhaya fund really worth?
Why it is necessary for a
woman to wait for food till her husband eats? Why is it necessary for her to
fast for her husband’s long life? Why on earth we have thoughts like this still
in our society? Why I see mothers advising their girls to be like this? Why it
is necessary for a woman to be mute when her husband makes some decisions? I am
not at all criticizing our society but some norms are utterly stupid. I still
remember the time when girls were admitted in Government Schools and the boys
were sent to English medium schools.
It was really sad when our neighbouring country China commented and made fun of us after Nirbhaya’s case. They were the one saying at least we do not have culture like this. We Indians
who feel proud on our culture and praise it to be the oldest culture in the
world but we have nothing to say because of our deeds. There was a case of October
2012 of Orissa. There is a tribe in Orissa where every year a fair is organized.
In those fairs a man (even if he is married) can marry any girl of any age; all
he needs to do is apply vermilion at the parting of girl’s hair.
There is a 60 year man choose a girl who is just 12, when girl denies she is
forced to go with the same man.
Also, people leave newly
born baby “girls” on roads. This is the era where we talk about the
modernization and development of women; we still have cases like this?
Giving some special rights
in the constitution or reserving seats in buses, trains won’t change anything.
I find some men saying your revealing clothes motivates me to rape, if this is
the case then your stupid face motivates me to punch your face. Should I?
How can we expect to be in world’s community if we are not able to give a
secure atmosphere to the residents of the country? Today why a common man fears
to go out with his wife/girlfriend late in night? Can’t we build a safe and
secure society where girls can walk freely?
Then there are people who
give some nuisance statements to leverage their image. People advising girls to
keep pepper spray in their purses, to learn martial-arts. All of these
protective measures are fine, but why girls have to live with fear.
I really don’t know from
where the fix-ups should be started but yes we can start it from home. We
should teach boys to respect woman. Why do we show respect only during Navratri?
We touch their feet, feed them and worship them and later disgrace them.
While giving birth to a child
the pain a mother feels is equal to the pain felt when 52 bones breaks down. On
the other hand we disrespect them, kill them. It is horrifying see movies like
“Matraubhumi” where a girl gets married to six men. Even mythological stories
tells if woman is disrespected it brings destruction. Lord Ravana of Ramayana
and Lord Duroyodhana of Mahabharata are some of the perfect examples.
God created woman, he brought her onto this earth and
assigned various roles. She plays as a kid, adopts her mom's way of
living. Continuing her personal life journey being as a daughter, sister and,
moves on to be a wife, then mother then, sister-in-law, aunt, mother-in-law
sacrificing many things in her life, joins her new family but I find many men
criticizing, comparing, insulting, disrespecting her....... instead should
encourage, support women to come up.
Let’s come together and make
our society, our country a happy and most importantly safe place to live. I
promise to be supportive and protective.
DO YOU???
