Hindi- the language with one of the biggest heart, the
language with the biggest vocabulary, the language with feelings, the language
whose words shows respect.
Well, we say it is
our National language, but it really is?
Being in sales, I happened to travel many parts of the
country, I happened to stay in South for 6 months and my trip was horrible,
though people are helping but they do not know HINDI. Being an Indian you
should be ashamed if you don’t know Hindi. On every Railway Station there is a sentence
written “Pratidin Hindi ka Ek Shabd Sikhiye, ye humari Matra Bhasha hai”. Being
and brought up in a hindi state I really had lot of problems in a state where
people rarely know hindi. Hindi is not even there in the syllabus many states
or it is just an optional language to learn. I was more than surprised to know
that there are people in our country, here I am specifically commenting on the
youth of our country. Their pronunciations of hindi are horrible, they even
fumble while speak. If we had given it the status of our Mother Language
doesn’t it deserve a right to be a compulsory language?
We all have heard that joke, An American returned from his
Indian tour and met with one of his Indian friend who asked, so how was my
India? He said pretty well. Indian again asked him and how are Indians, he said
I never met any Indian, I visited Punjab, I met Punjabis, I visited Bihar I met
Bihari’s, I visited Mumbai, I met Marathi’s, I visited Gujrat, I met Gujrati’s,
then I went to Chennai, there I met Anna’s,
but dude I haven’t met a single Indian.
Irony is this is very much true….
In marketing I’ve learnt a term known as “bifurcation of market” where we bifurcate our own market as for example when fair n lovely launched fair n handsome, which was a cream specifically for man. For all these years everyone was using the same cream but now they have launched a specific product for man.
Similarly, our politicians bifurcate or divide us. Someone says you need to have a work permit to work in particular state, someone says because of you guys our people are not getting opportunities. All I am trying to say is I am living in India, a democratic country, this is my right. I can move to any part of the country, I can work/ business in any part of the country. These are all my fundamental rights. Work permit are you kidding me? I need to have work permit in my own country because I do not belong to this state. It reminds me of one of the good saying in movie “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” where he says bapu aaj jinda hote to kehte, “desh to apna ho gaya, par log paraye ho gaye.” Is this the reason why people sacrificed their life for seeing our country like this?
English, popularly known as Global Language is compulsory for all. I’ve even heard people saying if you don’t know English you really are backward. This reminds me of Chinese culture, they are so deeply in love with their language that every work they do is in their language. They are the only country who had not welcomed English with their open hearts, all their works is done in their language and are still successful. They prove us that English is not compulsion to be successful. Though I am not saying we should turn our culture like Chinese culture, being a developing country and an outsourcing hub, English is more like necessity to us. Being a country where people are ready to accept all the cultures and rituals with open heart, I am proud to say we are the only country in the world with 415 living languages.
That brings me to another point that whether we require
promotion of our language? There are various schools in our country where the
interviews of parents are also taken in English. Is this justified? All they
claim is whether a particular child will be able to do his homework or not.
What I mainly try to speak here about is why in our country Hindi has become more like an outsider or Alien. I really feel sad when someone asks me to convert a word/phrase into Hindi. Don’t you feel shame that you don’t know about your mother language.
